This Week in the Theatre Scene: Feast on Theatre (14-20 October)

Reviewers go to dinner on culinary puns

PICK: The Feast

On Friday night, this show literally has a feast. How amazing is that?
On Friday night, this show literally has a feast. How amazing is that?

What are we Feasting on? Not one, not two, but three very different plays all in one evening: 1. Halfatasi by Refiner’s Fire Collective  2. The Soldier’s Heart and The Feathered Girl by Le Petit Workshop 3. The Clown That Ran Away From The Circus by Nikki Bennett and Company
Who’s putting it on? In the kind of collaborative enterprise we need to encourage in Auckland, the three companies are working together to produce their shows. They met at Red Leap’s (of The Arrival fame) incubator workshop and were then selected by the company for its Short Works showcase, and now they make their professional debut.
What are the flavours on offer? There’s an original folk tale told through puppetry and a “profusion of 3D” (whatever that means); a “European theatrical tradition marinated in the flavours of Samoan movement, song and tradition, served with a side of history and drizzled with identity and crisis”; and finally a tale about a clown who runs away from the circus.
Actually hungry? There’s a POPdining pop-up restaurant at The Basement especially for the Friday show.
Where? The Basement, Tues 15 – Sat 19th 7:30pm (except for a 6:30pm start on the Friday to fit the eating in).
Tickets? Bargain $25 for 3 shows at iTICKET. Friday Food+Show is $55.
